Aidan Braid

Aidan, 17, was a student at Logan Park High School, Dunedin, where he was Deputy Head Boy. This year he is doing an Arboriculture course and aims to do a botany degree in the future. He has done a mind, body and soul 21 day Outward Bound course, been on the Spirit of New Zealand twice, and the Elwing; a smaller craft on Stewart Island. He participated in Hands On Science at the University of Otago, and a year long Youth Emergency Preparedness Program with Red Cross. His interest and passion for the outdoor environment grew from his sporting hobbies such as sailing, windsurfing, kayaking, skiing, snowboarding, climbing and tramping. If he had his way he’d spend his entire life on the harbour or in the hills. He helped start an initiative to use recyclable containers at his school canteen and he wants to be involved in trying to preserve the environment through volunteer organizations in years to come. Aidan’s teachers say that his mature and positive attitude, practical outdoors skill set, supporting and confident nature, work ethic and focus will stand him in good stead for his future goals.
