Peter Hay is a Trustee of the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron (RNZYS). In 1995 as Commodore of the RNZYS( the Challenging yacht Club) he had the honour of being presented with the Americas Cup when Sir Peter Blake and Team New Zealand won the Cup in San Diego. Peter worked very closely with Sir Peter in the selection of Team NZ to represent the RNZYS and NZ and the challenge, and the planning of the first defence.
Peter is a Civil Engineer and has worked all his professional life with Beca Group, working in many countries across the globe. This included working as an executive Director of Beca for about 20 years, leading the Infrastructure Group.
In his sporting career he was a keen rugby player, representing Auckland and New Zealand Universities and was also a very keen yachtsmen competing in many ocean racing campaigns for NZ such as the Admirals Cups in the UK, Sydney to Hobart races, Fastnet races and races to Pacific Islands. He is still racing yachts.
Peter has been involved as a trustee or board member for commercial, educational, sporting and community organisations in the private and public sectors.
