Sophie Ross

Sophie is entering her second year at the University of Otago after studying a BA major in Politics and the first year Law course in 2016. Outside of her study she has held the position of Student President of Arana College and volunteered as a Campus Ambassador for the Inspiring Stories Trust. She has also been selected as a delegate on the US Leadership Tour held by UN Youth NZ in February of 2017.

Sophie has a keen interest in encouraging young people to create positive change through volunteering. By establishing and coordinating a youth volunteer initiative she mobilised over 200 students to complete hundreds of hours of volunteer work over her final year at Nelson College for Girls in 2015. This was in addition to her capacity as Deputy Head Girl. Sophie presented about this experience at the Festival for the Future 2015 event held in Auckland.

Sophie hopes to apply the practical conservation experience provided by the Blake Ambassadorship to her study and potential volunteer initiatives.
