ABOUT THE SIR PETER BLAKE TRUST
The Sir Peter Blake Trust is a non-profit organisation established in 2004 as a charitable trust to continue Sir Peter Blake’s environmental leadership legacy.
Our core purpose is to re-start people caring for the environment…through adventure, through participation, through education and through enjoyment. We do this by providing life-changing environmental adventures and programmes that follow in the footsteps of Sir Peter Blake himself and aim to inspire and prepare people to lead a sustainable future for Aotearoa.
The Sir Peter Blake Trust is a small, dedicated team based in Auckland’s Viaduct Harbour. The Board currently consists of Independent Chair Dr Paul Reynolds and nine Trustees.
The Sir Peter Blake Trust has recently launched a new strategic plan which has seen a shift in direction for the organisation. The renewed strategy has a greater focus on environmental leadership, with an emphasis on the country’s young people. Over the next three years it aims to inspire at least 40,000 young New Zealanders to care for the environment and prepare at least 400 Kiwis to lead a sustainable New Zealand.
The Board is seeking to appoint two new independent Trustees to strengthen and support this new strategy over the next three years; and is also seeking to increase the diversity on the Board.
IDEAL APPLICANT DESCRIPTION
If you have an interest in governance, are passionate about the environment and a sustainable future for New Zealand, this could be your opportunity to make a positive difference.
- Knowledge and connection to youth thinking and culture in New Zealand.
- Understanding and empathy of Māori and/or Pasifika culture.
- Knowledge and/or experience in fundraising in a non-profit organisation is an advantage.
- Understanding of environmental and/or education sectors, or a passion for these sectors.
- Be committed to bringing a fresh, new perspective to the Board.

Remuneration and Meetings
As a non-profit organisation, this is an unpaid position. The successful candidate will be required to attend four board meetings per year in Auckland, including one annual, half-day strategic planning session (travel costs covered). In addition, the candidate will need to set aside time to prepare for each of these meetings and participate in other activities on occasions.
The Chair and the Chief Executive, with the support of the staff, will establish an agenda for each board meeting. Board materials will be distributed to members in sufficient advance of the board meetings to allow members to be thoroughly prepared.
