Siobhan O'Connor

Spending more time in the water than out, Siobhan grew up telling everyone she wanted to be a Marine Biologist- even before she could pronounce the title. Despite shying away from science at high school, today she is completing a Bachelor of Science majoring in Marine Biology and Environmental Science at Victoria University of Wellington.

Siobhan is a PADI Certified Scuba diver, and is most at home when immersed under water surrounded by the ocean’s weird and wonderful inhabitants- especially sharks! She has recently completed undergraduate marine field research in French Polynesia focusing on the relationship of corals and their obligate associates. This glimpse of research life enhanced Siobhan’s practical science and communication skills which will accompany her throughout the ambassadorship.

Working for Tasman District Council during a complex and controversial environmental consultation process allowed Siobhan insight into the politics that surround our environment, and the various paths in which change can be implemented.

Honoured to be selected as a Blake Ambassador, Siobhan intends on using the role to educate and inspire others to cherish the oceans through which she has found her life’s inspiration and purpose.
